I have put together a web page which has the front-end problem lists and plots, as well as other information relevant to the October shutdown: http://penn01.fnal.gov/~cot/oct2001/ As fixes occur, I will keep this page updated. I include the text of the problem list below, but I first need to remind everyone of the details. For starters, the cell and wire labelling below is given as: superlayer-cell (quadrant,repeater,crate-slot-input): #wire / TDC channel where the TDC input is 0-3 from the bottom, wire is 0-11, and TDC channel is 0-95 from the bottom. The web page has a postscript file of all the COT mapping...it's 6 pages, but it has all maps by crate and superlayer, and I never go into the pit without it. The page also summarizes the "setcv" routine. I made a Linux version of it, so you should be able to go to any computer in B0 and just type "setcv" (from the cdfdaq account) to start. Bob, Morris, et. al. may want to use the command "f pulser" which will program all DAC's for their usual spy testing (just edit the file ~cotdaq/setcv/pulser_settings if you want to change things). To review, the data for the problem list are taken from special calibration runs using the COTASDQ front-end code, which pulses the ASDQ for varying control voltage settings, and writes out summary information for each channel. I perform several different runs adjusting the CV's: ATN --> attenuation switch (default off) DTH --> disc threshold (default 225 mV) TRE --> trigger reference (even cells) TRO --> trigger reference (odd cells) QEN --> dE/dx (charge) enable (default enabled) QDR --> drain current (output width, default 0 mV) These runs are: NOM --> nominal CV settings (ATN off, QEN enabled, both TRE/TRO on) ATN --> nominal, but ATN on QEN --> nominal, but QEN disabled TRE --> only pulse even cells TRO --> only pulse odd cells NUL --> null pulsing, set TRE/TRO to 0 mV (off) DTH --> disc threshold scan I then extract the following quantities: N --> average hit number per pulse (occupancy) N is found for the nominal run (both TRE/TRO), same cell on only (TRE or TRO) opposite cell on only (TRE or TRO), and the null run (TRE/TRO both off). For example: SL1-042 (B,189,12-17-1): #00/24 N = 1.112 (1.008,0.007,0.106) nominal (same, opp, null) There are several hit number categories. "Dead" means N < 0.990 (there are sometimes glitches which cause a crate to lose a calibration event, which is why I don't cut on N < 1.000). "Warm" means anywhere from ( 1.010 < N < 1.100 ). "Null" noise wires have N > 0.100. "Hot" wires are N > 1.1. These categories are designed to separate distinct problems. Real chamber and/or front-end noise will have N > 1 for nominal/same-side (and N > 0 for opp-side/null), while crossed wires and noise from calibration lines have mixed results between same/opp sides. There is also a special category which usually has ( 1 < N < 2 ) for nominal and same but almost exactly 0 ( < 0.010 ) for opp and null runs, and so is not a noise upstream of the TDC's. It occurs predominantly for TDC channels 15, 39, 47, 67, and 83 (see final category below). I include them for completeness, but I don't know of anything we can do about them. T --> average start time I compute the average times per superlayer, and place both single-wire (loose) and cell-average (tighter) cuts. For example: SL2-118 (C,469,06-06-1): #05/29 T = 457.9 (442.4+/-7.0) +15.6 wire avg (SL +/- cut) deviation See the web page under "time/width/DTH cut ranges" for plots of these quantities. W --> average width Cuts on the nominal width are made as with time, but I also place width cuts for the ATN and QEN runs, to make sure that the ASDQ is receiving the proper control voltages. Most cells/wires showing "bad QEN or ATN" are on the border of the cuts, but there are a couple that need checking. D --> disc threshold (50%) Using the discriminator threshold scan, I calculate the DTH point where the ASDQ is firing for 50% of events. This is meant to check for ASDQ connectivity with the motherboard (DTH will be twice as high as normal if no injected pulse is split down the wire). However, this check mostly fails due to funny looking calibration pulses, but should still be investigated. In the threshold scan, I also calculate the "oscillation point", where the hit average starts jumping up to the maximum N = 8 at low threshold. That is, I find the lowest threshold bin where N is closest to 1.100. These values are shown along with DTH in the plots. In general, any cell having >2 of the above problems is defined as a "bad cell". Otherwise, the problems fall into the "bad wire" categories. There is a certain hierarchy in the problems, in that a dead wire will not show up as a bad time, width, etc, and a bad width cell will not have bad ATN and QEN as well. Problems do overlap, though, in some cases. We do not have any "dead cells", in that there are no bad plug-ins. The cells showing up in the "dead/noisy" column have some fundamental noise problems which should be addressed first. There are also many "null noise" cells associated with the "washer quadrant" (SL6-D), so one of the TRE/TRO lines may be shorting. There is one "double-pulse" cell pair that I know of, SL6-160, but it is hard to access at the repeater. You'll notice that the "bad time" cells are mostly grouped into a few rogue TDC's. I have measured calibration and returning output pulses at the repeaters for these cells, and cannot see the roughly 10 ns deviation. Ron Moore suggested at one time that this could be a via problem, and Kirby says there are enough spares now (about a dozen) that we could try swapping. Of course, there's no evidence that the t-zero calibration doesn't successfully deal with these. I have tagged all of the problems with HVD (HV daughter board disabled) or TRK (tracktest failure).
